Albanian passport and ID card in Greece
Albanian citizens in Greece apply for a biometric passport or ID card in person at an Albanian mission. You book the appointment on e-Albania. This page gives only what we found on official pages.
This is general information from the official sources below, not legal advice. Rules and fees change: check the official page or ask the mission before you pay.
- Where
- The Embassy in Athens (Filothei) and the Consulate General in Thessaloniki, as listed in the official fee table ("Athens–Thessaloniki"). For the Consulate General in Ioannina, see below.

- Biometric passport: €130. ID card: €12 (Albanian Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, consular fee table).

Steps
- Book on e-Albania
Sign in to your account and choose a date and time at the Embassy or Consulate. The Ministry links to this service from its application page. - Prepare your documents
See the list below for your case. If needed, the consul generates the birth or family certificate from the Civil Registry. - Go in person
The service is given in person only. - Collect your document
At the counter, or by post/courier to your address, based on the declaration you sign when you apply. Documents must be collected within 1 year of applying, or they are treated as refused.
Documents for each case
- First time (passport and ID card), aged 16 and over: an old-style passport, or a new-style electronic driving licence, or another valid photo document issued in Greece (if you have one).
- Passport for a child under 16: the old passport (if any), another photo document issued in Greece (if any), and the court decision when a legal guardian applies.
- Expired document: the expired passport and/or ID card.
- Lost only the passport or only the ID card: a copy of the Albanian passport or ID card, another photo document from Greece and/or the old passport, and the police report of the loss from the country where it happened, legalised/apostilled and translated into Albanian.
- Lost both: the old passport and/or the electronic driving licence and/or another photo document from Greece, plus the police report (legalised/apostilled and translated).
- Damaged document, or passport pages full: the damaged document.
- Change of personal details: a copy of the ID card or passport, or a photo document from your country of residence.
When to renew
- When it has expired, or 6 months before expiry if you travel to or stay in countries that require 6 months' passport validity.
If you lost it
- You can declare the loss in your e-Albania account; the document is generated within 3 days.
- Or apply on e-Albania for a self-declaration certificate of loss, theft, damage or blocking at the Embassy/Consulate.
- If you find it later, declare it found in the same e-Albania application (or sign a declaration at the mission, if you made the self-declaration there).
Collection
- The ID card is activated only when the citizen collects it in person. The Embassy in Athens says ID cards sent by post are not electronically activated and cannot be used for banking services in Albania.
- An adult's passport can be collected by a family member listed on the family certificate, with authorisation, or sent by prepaid post.
- A child's passport is collected by a parent, the legal guardian, or a representative with a special power of attorney or a notarised declaration before the consul.
- Counter hours for collection at the Embassy in Athens: Monday–Thursday 09:00–14:30, Friday 09:00–14:00 (notice of 23 October 2026).
- In its notice of 23 October 2026, the Embassy in Athens announced the arrival of documents applied for between 5 and 16 October 2026. This shows recent timing, not a guarantee.
